Unlike many, my wife and I typically don’t watch much of the talent shows on TV. But, when we do, it is usually when someone comes out of nowhere to turn heads and whose story inspires us.
13-year old Rion Page has done just that.
Page is nearly blind in one eye and has limited use of her hands. During her audition on FOX’s X-FACTOR, she managed to blow away the judges. Since then, her performance has gone viral, and she has captured the hearts of those around the world.
If you haven’t seen it, below is a clip of her performance.
Rion managed to quickly grab the world’s attention. Not only over her great voice, and spunky hair. It was because at some point in her life, she made a choice. A choice to excell in her strength, her God-given gift, rather than fret over her deficiencies. In addtion, she refuses to let the world give her a free pass, or have pity on her.
I am drawn to stories like Rion’s because my wife and I can relate. As little people, we too made the deliberate choice to not focus on our deficiencies. Instead, we focus on our strengths. We simply want to live, and excell in life, just as everyone else does.
Just as in the case of Rion, or my wife and I, everyone faces a deficiency to overcome. Whether it is physical, mental, or emotional, there’s something in each one of us that we are fighting. Those are unimportant. What is important is the choice we make in response to our deficiences.
It really is that simple.
Make the choice Rion, my wife, and I did. Look beyond your deficiences, and discover your talents, and puruse that with relentless passion and enthusiasm.
